Over the course of five days, participants will gain a deeper understanding of budgeting, saving, investing, managing debt, and planning for retirement.   • Personal Finance Overview: Key areas of personal finance – budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt.

  • Goal Setting: The importance of setting short, medium, and long-term financial goals.
  • SMART Goals Framework: Setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound financial goals.
  • Understanding Net Worth: Calculating assets and liabilities to determine personal net worth.

Activity:

  • Financial Goal Setting Exercise: Participants will create their personal financial goals using the SMART framework. They will set a specific goal for the next 6 months, 1 year, and 5 years.

Assignment:

  • Complete a personal financial health assessment (assets, liabilities, and income).

Day 2: Budgeting and Managing Cash Flow

Objectives:

  • Learn how to create and maintain a budget.
  • Understand cash flow management and its impact on financial health.

  • Creating a Budget: Steps to create a practical monthly budget (Income vs. Expenses).

Activity:

Assignment:

  • Track personal spending for 1 week using an app or manual tracking to identify spending habits.

Day 3: Saving Strategies and Emergency Fund Planning

Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of saving and building an emergency fund.
  • Explore different saving strategies for short and long-term goals.

  • Why Save?: The importance of saving and the role of saving in achieving financial goals.
  • Emergency Fund: How much to save for emergencies, where to keep your emergency fund, and how to build it.

Day 4: Introduction to Investments and Wealth Building

Day 5: Managing Debt and Planning for Retirement

Objectives:

  • Learn strategies to manage and reduce personal debt.
  • Understand how to plan for retirement and future financial security.

  • Debt Management: Types of debt (good vs. bad debt), interest rates, and strategies to pay down debt (e.g., debt snowball vs. debt avalanche).

  • Debt Repayment Plan Exercise: Participants will create a debt repayment strategy using the debt snowball or debt avalanche method.
  • Retirement Planning Calculation: Using an online retirement calculator, participants will calculate how much they need to save for retirement based on their desired lifestyle.

Assignment:

  • Finalize a comprehensive personal financial plan, including budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management strategies.

  • Duration: 5 full days (6 hours per day).
